The Rivertowns Table Tennis Club plays five times a week
in Tarrytown, Ardsley, and Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, just north of New York City.
Players of all skill levels are welcome, from beginner to expert. Members range in
age from early teens to 70s and include both men and women. Several players are
USATT-rated over 2000. Professional instruction is available for an hourly fee.
The Club was founded in 1999 in Hastings-on-Hudson by Steve Zeitlin, one of the country's
leading folklorists, and Stefan Kanfer, a best-selling author. Their goal was to provide a
place for friendly competition among table tennis enthusiasts in lower and middle Westchester
County. Today the members also include a cartoonist, a crossword editor, a nanny, a
train repairman, a toy inventor, a child psychologist specializing in autism, several
high school students, and an eclectic mix of other occupations.
The Tarrytown facility has six tables and, of the three sites, generally the highest level
of play. Ardsley and Hastings have four tables each and a more relaxed atmosphere. About
15-25 players play over the course of a typical evening. Newcomers are welcome at all
locations at any time.
Club membership is $100 / year for adults, $50 for children under 20. The fee covers play at
all locations and nights. The first night is complimentary.
